First Day in the MTC

The first day at the MTC has been so amazing. The wonderful Elders going to Mexico picked up all of our bags out of our car and took them up to our room for us, showing us the way. They jump to service all day opening doors for us with their big smiles and eyes lit up with the Spirit. The Spirit is so strong you can feel it everywhere you go. We feel truly blessed to be here at this time and look so forward to traveling to Ohio.

We had a very spiritual meeting with the MTC Presidency today. If we didn’t have tears in our eyes after singing “Called To Serve” we definitely had tears in our eyes after the piano solo of one of the very talented Elders who played “A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief.” The MTC President and his wife, President and Sister Brown, gave talks that went right to our hearts. Sister Brown talked about a Senior Couple’s mission was a mission of love. We show our love by obedience when we accept the call to go on a mission. We show our love by loving the people we serve and teach. We show our love to our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren by showing how much we love the Savior when we serve a mission.

President Brown mentioned that the comparison of senior couples serving missions from 2010 to 2011 has increased by 35% which has truly been a blessing to the missions. He quoted President Uchtdorf when he came to talk at the MTC when his twin grandsons were here, “You can read, and read, and re-read Preach My Gospel and it will continue to teach you everything that is good in life.” Our homework for tonight is to memorize “My purpose” on page 1. He stressed the importance of teaching the Doctrine as recorded by every Prophet in the Book of Mormon and challenged us to become Preach My Gospel missionaries.

President Brown stressed the importance of writing to our families. He said, “Let them feel the power of the Holy Ghost in what we write.” We do not understand the impact it has on them and their families.

This day has been wonderful for us. Our room is lovely. The food is excellent and the company is the best.

We miss you all and love you.

A scripture to ponder this week: D&C 68:6 “ Wherefore, be of good acheer, and do not bfear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you; and ye shall bear record of me, even Jesus Christ, that I am the Son of the living God, that I cwas, that I am, and that I am to come.” He is always with us.
