Funny Story!

We thought we were going to work in the basement of the County Courthouse so we go to the beautiful Courthouse the first day of work and it was some high security police entrance so we had to go through the security thing and put our bags in the scanner and Elder Carmack had to have the metal detector wand scan. It kept sounding the alarm so he had about 3 policeman all around him and they finally decided it was his metal buttons on his coat. Our supervisor called us and was wondering where we were because he was across the street at the Law Library where we were supposed to be working! Quite the start of our first day of work in the mission! We are quite safe and well protected here. There is a police person at the door when we come into this building too. They are all quite kind to us. We love our mission!

We Arrived!

We arrived at our mission Thursday evening, February 16, 2012, to a beautiful all set up apartment. The Mission President was there with four young missionaries and the senior couple from the mission office. They even went grocery shopping for us! We have been very well taken care of. We love our apartment. It is a 2 bedroom, 1 ½ bath apartment with a nice size living room/dining room/kitchen that is all open. We have an attached garage and the people are so nice to work with. It is very quiet and I have seen mostly seniors so far.

We had Stake Conference with a General Authority, Elder Golden, last weekend. We got to meet a few people and Stake Conference was wonderful. Elder Golden touched on just about everything and is a very inspired  leader. Our Mission President and his wife are wonderful. They sure love their callings and the missionaries. They will be going home soon and a new Mission President has been called to begin July 1st. We love them already and will miss them but I know the next one is fabulous too. You can tell the missionaries love them very much.

We had dinner with the Mission Leader and his wife who also invited the young missionaries to eat with us. We had a very productive meeting. Neil and I are sending out invitations to the Valentine Dance with a “Return Service Requested” notice on the postcards so we can get addresses updated by the Post Office before we start home visits. The young missionaries have been working very hard in our area to prepare for the Mission President’s rescue challenge of 15 families. They brought us a whole box of supplies and an area book and etc. to get started with the rescue work. We are very excited to meet the families in our Ward this weekend.

We love our work. We are working with our Regional Supervisor this week to train on focusing, lighting, leveling, and etc. to take the best photos of our very sacred records we are working with. Since we both like to index, we can see the importance of taking very good photos of these records so the indexers can read them clearly. There is so much to learn and we are so grateful for the opportunity. We had a wonderful experience yesterday. We got to meet the Records Manager of the County we are working with and she took us on a tour of the Archive and Microfilming Department. She took us to this back room that was full of old ledgers that no one knew were there. We feel our paths have prepared us for this special time in our lives to experience the everyday miracles that happen in the mission field. The church is true. We are so happy and excited to be called to the Ohio Cleveland Mission. Love to all!

MTC Experience

We feel the MTC Experience has been heaven on earth! The Spirit is so strong here. There is a love and companionship that grows with each passing day! I love my companion!

The Preach My Gospel training last week was so inspiring and fun. Our teachers were totally awesome as you can tell from their pictures. Our Digital Equipment Training has been very thorough and helpful to us. We are excited to practice doing books today and tomorrow. Who knew there was so much to do to focus a camera to take pictures of these sacred documents? We have loved every minute of our training and are so anxious to get to our mission. We know we have been prepared well and are ready to "go and do what the Lord commands." We are going to absolutely love our mission!

We were blessed to hear from Bishop and Sister Edgley of the Presiding Bishopric at our devotional last night. Sister Edgley spoke about making good choices and how important it is to feed the good and not the evil. Bishop Edgley spoke of the importance of our missionary calling and the examples we are being to our posterity. They were absolutely amazing! We are so blessed!

Our Picture Was In The Church News

Here is the link to click on to see our picture in the Church News. http://www.ldschurchnews.com/articles/61993/A-jubilee-year-for-missionary-language-instruction.html
Our picture is toward the end of the article.

It was the 50th Anniversary of the MTC, Tuesday, January 31, 2012. We were in our Senior Couples Classroom when a photographer came in to take pictures. Two Apostles from the Quorum of the Twelve came to speak to us and do a dedicatory prayer that evening. We feel very honored to be there at such a special time. The meeting and prayer were so wonderful. They have a special place for the senior couples to sit. We have been treated like royalty there. We feel so blessed. We love you! (Smile)

One of the Maps in the MTC

Most missionaries try to get a picture in front of the Map in the MTC to point to where they have been assigned. The first week at the MTC has been incredible! We made some wonderful friends there and grew very close in our district. We learned so much from each other and we feel we had the most amazing group. I have loved listening to my husband's stories from his mission and feeling his strong Spirit as he testified of truths. It is so nice to work and think as one together.
